Coaching will help you to see what you can’t necessarily see by yourself. It will help you to achieve more than you think is possible for yourself. Whilst coaching may well be therapeutic, it is not therapy. Coaching is very different from the more traditional forms of psychological therapy and counselling. Coaching focusses on the future. It takes you as you are right now, regardless of anything that has happened in the past, and helps you to work out what it is you want to achieve and how you can achieve it. The coaching process is a series of confidential, regular, one-to-one sessions where you will gain insights and clarity about yourself and what you really want to achieve. Here are some definitions of coaching which may help you: The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) defines coaching (1) as “developing a person’s skills and knowledge so that their job performance improves, hopefully leading to the achievement of organisational objectives. It targets high performance and improvement at work, although it may also have an impact on an individual’s private life. It usually lasts for a short period and focuses on specific skills and goals.” (1) Coaching Factsheet revised October 2007 Sir John Whitmore, author of ‘Coaching for Performance’, describes coaching as “...unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teach them.”

“I walked in with what I felt was an unsurpassable challenge, and before I know it by the end of the session, I had found a solution myself. I came out positively energised and feeling much more confident in my abilities.”
